The short version
By using Penny Hunter (the app at pennyhunter.store, on the App Store, on Google Play, or any related service), you agree to these terms. We're a small team building a free deal-aggregation app. We try hard to be accurate but we can't guarantee every price, every deal, or every penny-day prediction. Read on for specifics.
1. Who can use Penny Hunter
You must be 13 or older. If you're under 18, your parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf. Don't use the app if you're barred from doing so by U.S. law.
2. The service
Penny Hunter aggregates publicly available retail data — weekly ads, community-confirmed clearance lists, store directories — into a searchable mobile app. The data comes from many sources, including retailers themselves, third-party APIs, RSS feeds, and public web pages.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Dollar General, Walmart, Target, Amazon, Home Depot, or any other retailer mentioned in the app. All retailer names and logos are the property of their respective owners.
3. Accuracy disclaimer
We do our best to surface accurate information, but:
- Prices change constantly. The price you see in the app may differ from the price at the register.
- Penny days, markdown ladders, and clearance cycles are based on community reports and may be wrong, regional, or inconsistent across stores in the same chain.
- Items may be out of stock at your local store regardless of what the app says.
- UPCs are subject to manufacturer changes; the same product can have multiple UPCs.
- Resale price estimates are AI-generated approximations, not financial advice.
Always verify the actual ringing price at the register before purchasing. Penny Hunter is a hunting tool, not a guarantee.
4. Affiliate disclosure
Some links in the app and on this website are affiliate links. When you tap "Shop" on a deal and complete a purchase, we may earn a small commission via Amazon Associates, Skimlinks, or Impact at no additional cost to you. This is how we keep Penny Hunter free.
The commission has no effect on which deals we surface or how they're ranked. Required FTC affiliate disclosure: "Penny Hunter participates in affiliate marketing programs. We may earn commission from qualifying purchases."
5. Your content
When you log a find, watch an item, or save a receipt, that content stays on your device unless you've enabled Pair Sync (in which case it syncs to a paired device via our backend) or Anonymous Finds Sharing (in which case the UPC + store + price are sent anonymously to power community-confirmation badges).
You retain all rights to your own content. By enabling Anonymous Finds Sharing, you grant us a non-exclusive license to use the anonymized data (UPC + store + price + timestamp) to power features like "X hunters confirmed" badges.
6. What you can't do
- Scrape or systematically copy data from the app or website
- Reverse-engineer the app to extract our briefing data wholesale
- Pollute the anonymous finds dataset with fake submissions
- Use the app to plan or commit retail theft, fraud, or any other crime
- Resell or redistribute our briefing JSON or any other data we surface
- Impersonate Penny Hunter or claim affiliation with us
7. Intellectual property
The Penny Hunter brand, app design, code, and aggregated database are our property. The underlying retail data (weekly ads, penny lists, clearance reports) belongs to the retailers and contributors who published it; we surface it under fair-use and the public-information doctrine.
8. Service changes + termination
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with or without notice. We may terminate your access if you violate these terms or abuse the service.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the app will be available, error-free, or that any deal will save you money. Use at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Penny Hunter (and its operators) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service — including but not limited to: paying more than expected at the register, missing a penny day, an item being out of stock, a UPC mismatch, or a receipt OCR error. Our total liability for any claim is capped at $25 USD.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your misuse of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Macomb County, Michigan, and you consent to that venue.
13. Changes to terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via in-app notice or email (if you've subscribed for updates). Continued use after the update means you accept the new terms.
